Airbus Maveric, Innovating Greener Commercial Aviation
Airbus SE (EADSY) is taking action towards making our skies greener for everyone. Aviation leaves behind a large carbon footprint with the burning of jet-fuel. Airbus is making an effort to improve the efficiency and thus reducing the carbon footprint with the new design of the Maveric.
The concept of a blended wing body aircraft is not a first in the aviation industry. This style has been tested before by various other aircraft manufacturers although none have shown to have had success in the project like Airbus is currently
Airlines have been over the years making a conscious effort towards implementing flight operations that burn less fuel to be more efficient in the skies. Now we are seeing the joint efforts between airline manufacturers and operators working together towards making aviation safer for its passengers and the environment.

The Announcement
Singapore, 11 February 2020 – Airbus has revealed MAVERIC (Model Aircraft for Validation and Experimentation of Robust Innovative Controls) its “blended wing body” scale model technological demonstrator.
At 2 metres long and 3.2 metres wide, with a surface area of about 2.25m², MAVERIC features a disruptive aircraft design, that has the potential to reduce fuel consumption by up to 20% compared to current single-aisle aircraft. The “blended wing body” configuration also opens up new possibilities for propulsion systems type and integration, as well as a versatile cabin for a totally new on-board passenger experience.
Launched in 2017, MAVERIC first took to the skies in June 2019. Since then the flight-test campaign has been on-going and will continue until the end of Q2 2020.
“Airbus is leveraging emerging technologies to pioneer the future of flight. By testing disruptive aircraft configurations, Airbus is able to evaluate their potential as viable future products,” said Jean-Brice Dumont, EVP Engineering Airbus. “Although there is no specific time line for entry-into-service, this technological demonstrator could be instrumental in bringing about change in commercial aircraft architectures for an environmentally sustainable future for the aviation industry.”
Airbus is using its core strengths and capabilities of engineering and manufacturing, in close collaboration with an extended innovation ecosystem, to accelerate traditional research and development cycles. By doing this Airbus is able to achieve proof of concepts, at a convincing scale and speed, thereby driving forward maturity and increasing their value.
Through AirbusUpNext, a research programme, Airbus is currently working on a number of demonstrator projects in parallel; E-FAN X (hybrid-electric propulsion), fello’fly (v-shaped “formation” flight) and ATTOL (Autonomous Taxi Take-Off & Landing).

Test Flights
Seeing the test version of this aircraft start to take flight is incredible. The aircraft smoothly soars through the sky gracefully being able to maneuver with the long flight surfaces. Below you can find a video demonstrating the test flights of the Maveric.
Considering that the initial test on the model began in 2017 we can be lead to understand that the aircraft has had significant progress. The team was excited to announced its prototype this week. The same week as they are expected to announce their earnings report.
Airbus Earning Report Feb 13th 2020
Aviation companies love to take advantage of the large global conference to make a large announcement. Airbus SE (EADSY) would have naturally made an announcement of a unique a modernized aircraft design at Singapore Airshow.
To their benefit this year the Singapore Airshow falls on the same week that their earnings report is schedule to be released. Although there will not be any immediate gains in terms of revenue with the announcement of a new prototype there will be more eyes on the earnings report. With more individuals looking to see the results we can expect to potentially see trading volume to rise as well.
With trading volume rising up if the report comes out strong and they surpass their forecast than current investors who are already holding positions may look to potentially take on more positions as the earning report comes out positive which is in their favor.
Should the report be strong then we can anticipate for more buying to occur from current owners of the stock which will as a result attract new investors to potentially add shares of Airbus SE (EADSY) to their portfolio.
Technical Analysis
The chart for Airbus SE (EADSY) has been trending upwards for the last few weeks. There has been a sideways trend developed where we can see how price has created its range of high and lows. Using a Fibonacci channel we are able to determine some key price levels in the range based on the Fibonacci sequence.
Being that we are near the lower end of the range there is a potential that the earnings release could come out negative and the stock drops down below the previous range. This would then bring the stock into a new trading zone than the one that we are currently in which has been slightly upwards trending.
Since we are currently trading near the low of the range it does potentially create an optimal situation for a bullish trade. The price is near the low of the trend or as some would call it the dips in the up trending market. We are coming up on their earnings report and they just finished announcing a revolutionary aircraft that will save carbon emission by 20%. With the approval of the FAA and IATA, this aircraft could be flying in the near future.
Keeping in mind that the aircraft still has some ways to go before we will see it pulling into the terminal. The drive for more environmentally friendly air travel is strong with the aviation community. With large organization joining the movement towards making our skies cleaner we can look forward to working together on a future we can all be proud of.
Taking a position on a Call Spread would allow you to generate income on the potential rise in value of the stock. At the same time the call that you sell brings in some credit to lower your initial buy in. This also limits your potential earnings depending on how closely you are creating your spread.
